LANGWARRIN v CHELSEA

9:10:64 v 2:1:13

Well, howdy, diddley, doodley and thank God the day is over and what a day it was - up at 6.30 am, on the bus at 7.00 am and to the Channel 9 studios with the likes of Eddie, Dermie and that bloke who captains Hawthorn, Shane Crawford, to witness the new program, Screamers which featured our game against the Rovers. Six hours later, McDonalds, a very large headache, a bus ride from hell and then the wrong ground.

After all that we finally took the field with Chelsea with a large gale blowing straight down the ground making scoring at one end almost impossible. Kicking with the breeze in the first quarter, we played patches of good footy to put four goals on the board with Robbie Anderson controlling the goal square. We capitalised on the strong breeze, kicking into the wind. I asked the boys to work hard together as a team, play close checking football and run the ball up into the wind and to our credit, we did, resulting in us out scoring Chelsea. Daniel McConville, Jack OShea, Kyle Docherty and Luke Wilson all working well together really set up the game in the first half. Taking the field for the second half with Chelsea at times not quite playing the ball, unsettled the boys with some of us taking very heavy knocks but to our credit, we kept out heads over the ball at all times to play productive football in what was to be a good quarter of footy. With a good lead going into the last quarter kicking against the breeze, I asked the boys to keep Chelsea down to two goals and in fact, they took that instruction just a little bit further and kept them scoreless. This weeks play of the day goes to a bloke who received a heavy knock, lined up one of the Chelsea players who was dishing it out to our boys (quite a large boy) and gave him a great and very fair shirt front, taking the wind out of his sails, clearing the path for his team mate to take the ball away, which allowed him to hit a target further up the ground. Well done, Nathan Pike.
