LANGWARRIN v FRANKSTON ROVERS GOLD

2:2:14 v 2:2:14

Today we started out knowing we are only six points out of the four. In the first quarter we kicked against the wind. Our backline played very tight as they have done all year. The second quarter had us kicking with the wind and another quarter was played well. The boys had an urge to win this game and the first half was the best Ive seen all year. Unfortunately we lost Charley to serious injury which unsettled the side slightly, but to the boys credit they kept on trying. In the last quarter we had the wind and we should have won this match. We played so good for three quarters but should have played better in the last quarter. SERIOUS TRAINING and more so, SERIOUS THOUGHT about what you want out of your football.

LANGWARRIN v MOUNT ELIZA

1:0:6 v 22:16:148

The scores at the end of this game by no means reflected the way our boys played today. The slow starts of the past were gone and we pushed into the forward line again and again during the first quarter, only to break down in the full forward line area, where we were playing one man short due to lack of players this week. Mount Eliza scored a few times against the run of play but at quarter time, the team were still fairly positive. Matt Peacock arrived from the under 10s which gave us a full team for the rest of the match. The second quarter was much like the first. We were getting plenty of the football but were just not making it over the full forward line. Our whole team were tackling hard, getting in for the hard ball and playing some of their best football for the year.

At half time we spoke of the positives, emphasised the need to keep the pressure on Mount Eliza and to keep fighting on. Unfortunately Mount Eliza, must have got a bit of a pasting at half time, because they came out and really blasted the ball from the centre and into their forward scoring zone. I was glad to hear the three quarter time siren so we could regroup for the last quarter which saw us start off positively, not giving Mount Eliza any easy goals or possessions. The team was performing very well with us holding Mount Eliza due to some excellent work from the backline. We played excellent possession football with our passes hitting their targets. This allowed us to move the ball from the backline to the forward line with excellent team work on a number of occasions, with the reward finally coming to us with David Young kicking an excellent goal; his first in junior footy.

Overall, I would estimate that we had the ball in our possession for 60% of the game. We didnt capitalise on our possessions as well as Mount Eliza did, which is probably why the score was what it was.

Positives: The teamwork, the tackling, the desperation, never giving up and the goal.

BETTER PLAYERS:The whole team put in a fantastic effort.GOAL KICKERS:David, 1AWARDS:Daniel, Matt Peacock, Brad and Justin

NEXT GAME: Langwarrin v Keysborough at home

( I have put by head on the chopping block (literally) for this game. When we beat Keysborough, the boys can watch and assist as I have a number 1 crew cut in front of everyone after the game. No win - no cut. Come on boys, lets have a huge effort this week.)
